Cincinnati Metro's Macaroni Minute

By Jill Lynch, Editor & Publisher August 10, 2012

Good morning everyone.
I can not believe how quickly the summer has been flying by... with the Olympics almost over, and the start of school just around the corner.  Our family is about to take off for a final few days of vacation to bid the summer adieu... off to Northern Michigan.  What was your families favorite summer memory?  What family vacation spot would you recommend to others?

Just like the summer flying by, we will be treated to some out of this world fly-bys this weekend  -- it's the annual PERSEID METEOR SHOWER!  The parks are a prime spot to view the stars, and the Hamilton County Parks have designated areas where stargazers can admire the spectacle!
While the best viewing times are after midnight, there will still be plenty of opportunity to share this with the kids at other times after dusk and before down.

The Hamilton County Fair is in full swing at the Fairgrounds (I-75 and Paddock Rd if you've never been to the fairgrounds).  Always a fun time for the kids, especially the tractor pulls, demolition derbys, horse shows, and funnel cake -- more information in the MK Calendar above.

Today (Aug.10th) is a 'Free Friday' evening at the Cincinnati Museum Center (4-8pm)  Get their early for good parking (extra charge).  The lines do get long.

Lots of Shakespeare in the Park this weekend as well -- The Tempest (Saturday, Aug.11th @ Clifton Community Arts Center), and MacBeth (Sunday, Aug.12th at Washington Park).

The Great Inland Seafood Festival is running all weekend (August 9-12th) on Riverboat Row in Newport, KY.  If you love lobster, this is the place to snatch one up (only $10.95 for live lobsters).  My kids just like to look at them.  Maybe one day I'll be able to get them to try it.

Finally, you can enjoy free movies both days this weekend as well.  Pirates of the Caribbean 4 on Saturday at Washington Park, and the Goonies on
Sunday at Fountain Square.

As always, to see more about what is going on in West Chester/Mason area, check out Marie's West Chester/Mason MK newsletter.  If you see a kid or family-friendly event happening, please submit events so that others can also learn what is going on in our great city. And, if you know someone who is interested in subscribing, they can subscribe directly here.

While there are a lot of events listed below for this week, visit our Cincinnati Metro calendar page for the most up-to-date listing of local events to do with your kids and family.  And, just a note... when you click into the MK Calendar, you can see the events BY DAY and can easily move from day to day, instead of sifting through a long list below.  (Check it out!  It's what I personally use to find things to do each day for my family.)

Have a great week.
