Our Fall To-Do List

October 5, 2016

Happy Wednesday Everyone!

Fall is one of my favorite seasons (but I think I might say that at the beginning of every season!) We’re finally getting that cool crispness to the morning air…and trying to remember what the heck we used to wear last time it wasn’t 90 degrees outside.

Today I thought I would share our family’s list of must do things in the fall, please feel free to comment with any additions you might have and maybe we can do a part 2!

Visit the Pumpkin Patch(es)

Man do I love pumpkin patches….something about taking a drive out to the farm and doing the whole cider, hayride, corn maze thing just really says fall to me. We are lucky enough to be surrounded by lots of pumpkin patches within about a 30-45 minute drive but one of my personal favorites is definitely Blooms and Berries. There is so much for the kids to do there and their hayride is one of my favorites! Get a lot more ideas for fall festivals on the Event Calendar.

Drink & Eat Pumpkin Everything!

Whether you’re more of a Pumpkin Spiced Latte or Pumpkin Beer kind of person…both are only here for a limited amount of time so get them while you can! Also get in the kitchen with your kids and surprise your friends and neighbors with some delicious fall pumpkin bread or pumpkin snickerdoodles!

Neighborhood Costume Party

Four years ago we started an annual progressive Halloween party that went from house to house for appetizers, heavy appetizers, dinner and dessert…all Halloween themed of course. At the time we all had a 6 month old baby. Today those 6 month olds are 3.5 and all have a younger sibling so we have practically doubled in size but we continue the tradition and it’s one of the things I look forward to most each year!

Backyard Camping

This year we are planning a camping night for the Dads and older kids in a friend’s backyard. They will have a Campfire, marshmallows, tents and sleeping bags…but with a clean bathroom and a cozy bed (just in case) close by. The Moms plan to be at another neighbor’s house hanging out, staying warm and sipping on some cider J If it’s successful, maybe this will become another fall tradition!

Get Outside!

Go for walks, the zoo and the parks….just get outside! The weather is perfect and winter will be here before we know it!

 Jump in the Leaves

Once those leaves start falling the only thing that makes raking them bearable is watching your kids have a blast jumping in the piles!

Carve Pumpkins

But not too soon…the squirrels around here are INSANE and will have that pumpkin eaten up before you’ve had a chance to sneak your first mini KitKat from the candy bowl. Don’t forget to roast the seeds for a healthy delicious snack!

 Family Pictures

Whether you get them done professionally or have a friend do them…get to one of our beautiful parks while the leaves are changing and get some beautiful outdoor pictures of your family!

 Aerate the Lawn?

When I asked my husband for an addition to the list from Dad’s perspective, this is what he said. So in between PSL drinking and pumpkin patch visiting, apparently it’s time to aerate that lawn!
